Conflict is how TV Dramas are made, they are revolved around something happening between 2 or more characters to try and create entertainment for the audience. Ethnicity as conflict is recognised by emphasising the opposition/differences of the ethnics values, (racist), cultural and stereotypes to the values to that of the wider society.

Disability write up

The high angle at the beginning of the clip shows that one side of the room is untidy and messy which can relate to bens mind as he has a disability. And on the other side of the room David’s area is clear and organised, which suggests that he he’s thinking straight.  The camera then rotates around David with a close up that shows that he thinks the world revolves around him.  At the table where they are eating breakfast they use a shot reverse shot to show that there is conflict between the two brothers.  After school Ben is always in the background when David is talking to his mate, which means that he does not have as much power as others because of his disability. Also the younger brother takes up a lot more room in the shots, which could demonstrate that he is a bigger problem, and more important as he has to be looked after this reinforces the victim stereotype as he is very vulnerable and incapable of doing things for him.

When the clip starts its starts off as a slow zooming clip where it fades into the light, this gives it a smooth and calming feel. As we not associate teenagers as being calm this contradicts there stereotype, we think that this clip would be fast and quick transaction between them but having it like this can tell us that maybe the youth in this clip are seen as slow due to David having to look after his brother. There’s the use of juxtaposition as it goes from the man then to evolution that could show how some have failed in a way with the evolution scale.

When the high angle in the bedroom is seen, you can see both beds divided with a strict line where the clash of styles from the brothers individual sides happen, this could be a sign of conflict between them as their sides differ in great amount from the other.
Ben’s side of the room is very messy and clustered; this could be a portrayal of his mind and personality. David’s side of the room is kept tidy, this shows that he is organised, this is also a portrayal of their maturity, as children tend to be messier as adults are tidier.
Toys are used as props by Ben during the clip to show his maturity, although he is a teenager he still has the mental age of a small child, this reinforces the stereotype as he is physically and mentally incapable and therefore is a negative representation as he may be seen as not mature.

The background music was stopped when David’s teacher asked him if he was listening. This shows that the teacher has a more power and authority than him and could also suggest that it is linked with his life as he is also getting interrupted by having to look after his brother which means that he can not always go out and do what he wants. Therefore David could be seen as a victim because although he perfectly able he is controlled by his responsibilities of his brother.

The street - Analysis

The street analysis

Mise-en-scene

The location of the two characters tell us that they are most likely partners as they are in the kitchen arguing over the kids. During the argument the male characters takes the stereotype of being very aggressive and uncaring whereas the mother is trying to be co-operative. Although the mother is trying to reason with her partner she also comes across a bit competitive and aggressive which was unexpected from her role. The father had more narrative power over the mother as he was uncaring and said what he wanted to. Later on in the clip we see the male character go to a building site and use a hammer which is associated with a masculine action.

Camera

As they are having an argument they are as far apart from each other as possible standing on either side of the kitchen. Both characters are in the background but the father is looking down at the mother, which makes it look like he has more power than her when they are facing each other.  You can mostly see there upper body as it helps emphasise there anger because it concentrates on hand gestures and facial expressions. While arguing the mother is trying to clean up and staying active whereas the father is just standing in the same position, the camera also cuts back and forth very quickly between the two of them.

Sound

Both characters showed the masculine traits of being aggressive, loud and active. Which represents anger between the two of them. The rhythm of the edit matches the argument well because when ever one of them is louder or is speaking it cuts to them  shouting. In this situation the father characters shows that he is fed up with the kids and is trying to tell her that its there fault that the family is ruined.

Editing

I would say this is not edited like an equal conversation, as it is focused more on the father because he is more dominant in the scene causing it to be an argument. The editing is very fast cutting between both characters when they raise a point. As the father has caused the argument he has the most time on the screen as he is why the scene is happening. The cuts are very quick and frequent and mostly change when the character gets louder or shows to be more dominant.
